Watch coolant level closely on EJ-powered Legacys. The 2.5L boxer is prone to slow external head gasket seepage, and a coolant level that drops a little each month is the early warning. Catching it before it overheats on an I-15 climb saves you a far bigger repair.
Don't stretch the timing belt interval on EJ Legacys. The 2.5L is an interference engine — if the belt breaks, the valves hit the pistons. Salt Lake's heat-and-cold cycling ages rubber faster than a mild climate, so service the belt on schedule, not past it.
Keep all four tires matched on your AWD Legacy. Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive doesn't tolerate mismatched tire diameters — a worn pair against a new pair forces the center differential to fight itself. Rotate regularly and replace tires as a set of four.
