Acura SH-AWD rear differential fluid must be changed every 30,000 miles with Acura-specific fluid. Generic ATF causes the electronic coupling to malfunction.
Acura transmissions require Honda/Acura-specific ATF. Using generic transmission fluid causes shift quality problems and premature wear.
Acura TLX and MDX turbocharged engines need more frequent oil changes (5,000 miles) than naturally aspirated models due to turbo oil demands.
Mechanically yes—Acura uses Honda engines, transmissions, and platforms. This means our extensive Honda experience applies directly. We use Honda/Acura-specific fluids and parts, and we service Acuras at far less than Acura dealer rates.
This is almost certainly the SH-AWD rear differential coupling. The fluid breaks down over time and causes shudder during tight turns. A rear differential fluid change with Acura-specific fluid usually resolves it immediately. This is a $150 service that prevents a $2,000 coupling replacement.
Every 30,000 miles with Honda/Acura-specific DW-1 ATF. Do not use generic fluid—Acura transmissions are sensitive to fluid type. If your shifts feel harsh or delayed, a fluid change often restores smooth operation.
